On the western side of the Dead Sea lie the remains of two ashen cities, one at the base of Mt. Masada, and the other at the base of Mt. Sodom. In 1989, amateur archaeologist, Ron Wyatt was driving along the road past these sites. Although he had driven along this road perhaps thirty to forty times before, this time they suddenly looked like city walls and buildings. Pulling over to investigate further, Ron found that within these cities are building-like structures, all completely composed of ash. There are rooms that one can still enter today. He found interlinking streets, ziggurats and sphinx, all enclosed in traditional city walls, complete with buttresses.

Several oxydized bronze spearheads were found and even a skeleton that had completely turned to ash was found in Sodom. The marrow was visible at the ends of each of the bones. With a molecular frequency radar generator, Ron found gold salts, the by-product of vaporized gold. Samples of the material were taken and tested which proved to be pure ash. (See II Peter 2:6). From a height, one can see that the cities are laid out in an obvious man made 'square' formation. The surrounding material is all normal brown rock. The obvious question would be if the cities were destroyed 3900 years ago, how is it that the ash has not been completely eroded away? Research showed that objects burned with sulphur leave a remaining ash heavier than the original material.

Embedded in these pure ashen remains are sulphur, or brimstone balls. Sulphur is usually found in crystalline form, but this sulphur is unique to the world as it is round, white and has the consistency of compact powder. It is usually 30-40% sulphur, whereas these sulphur balls are 95-98% pure sulphur. The impurities in the sulphur are metals that would add to the heat given off. It burns at 5000-6000 degrees Fahrenheit. It was tested at Galbraith Laboratories, Knoxville, Tennessee, USA. They said that a BTU test could not be done as it would damage their stainless steel testing chamber. Sulphur is usually only found by volcanoes, sulfide ore mineral veins, or by sedimentary rocks associated with anhydrite, gypsum, limestone and saltdomes. We know that these sulphur balls must have been burning at some time in the past, because of the presence of burn rings around them.

These cities are indeed unique. Other cities that have been destroyed by fire or by volcanoes, like Pompeii, have a layer of ash on top, but under that is the original material. Here however, we see entire cities completely turned to ash, exactly as the Bible describes. II Peter 2:6 "And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly".

Sodom and Gomorrah Rediscovered
The story of Sodom and Gomorrah

"Then the LORD rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah --from the LORD out of the heavens.  Thus he overthrew those cities and the entire plain, including all those living in the cities --and also the vegetation in the land." Genesis 19:24, 25 NIV)

At the south end of the beautiful, yet barren Dead Sea area, there is a mountain known as Mt. Sodom.  It is adjacent to this area that the city of Sodom was located.  The Bible indicates that there were more than just the two cities of Sodom and Gomorrah that were destroyed that day.  So far, at least 5 cities have been discovered that were turned to ash and have sulfur balls strewn throughout them.  The location of each of these was found by scrutinizing satellite maps of the area, locating geometric shapes, particularly square or rectangular areas.  Visits to each location, with the subsequent finding of a city turned to ash and many sulfur balls (brimstone in the King James version of the Bible), provided confirmation.

Jonathan Gray points to one of the cities.  You can see the rectangular outline of the city walls. The white colored ash of the cities stands in stark contrast to the grayish brown of the surrounding desert.

The walls of the city in the picture below are quite evident.  No speculation needed.  The houses and buildings were actually quite substantial in size, suggesting a people of great stature once inhabited these cities.  The walls and everything in the cities were turned completely to ash!

The walls of the city are large and imposing (6k)  These buildings may be 30-40 feet tall (5k)

Here is a mound that looks as if it had been a ziggurat (a pagan pyramidal temple).   Outside of some of the cities were large shapes that were very similar in shape to the Great Sphinx of Egypt.

The presence of scorpions made for a heightened awareness as one entered some of the houses turned to ash.

Hundreds of sulfur balls were found and collected.  On two occasions, the investigation teams entered the cities after a rain fall.  The glass surrounding the balls glistened in the light, the rain having exposed millions of the balls.

The balls themselves were composed of pressed pure powder sulfur.  Checking with volcanic experts around the world confirmed that no where else in the world, even around volcanic activity, were any balls of this composition found.
When the balls had fallen from heaven, they were estimated to be around 5,000 degrees Celsius (or around 9,000 degrees Fahrenheit).  After consuming everything that was around them, the heat continue to melt the ash that had formed around them, vitrifying (turning to glass) the ash.  Thus the balls were surrounded by a glassy casing of melted and re-solidified ash.

Some what were thought to be gold coins were found.  However, upon analysis, it was found that the coins had been turned into gold salts.  The heat had literally burned up the gold in the coins turning them to gold ash.

The following photographs show the exploreres finding some of the sulfur balls inside a house turned to ash, and then burning a sample.

Sodom and Gomorrah

The Cities of the Plain

Ash and brimstone remain
_____________________________________________________________________

The five cities of the plain have been located and the evidence is staggering.  For the first time in modern history we have found round balls of brimstone, or nearly pure sulfur, embedded in an ashen area near the Dead Sea, which show clear signs of having once been ancient building structures!

Josephus Saw the Cities -- Why Can't We?

The cities were located in the plain, so they should not be located in the low area now covered by the Dead Sea.  These cities were well known in the first century, as Josephus said, "The traces or shadows of the five cities are still to be seen."  If Josephus could see them, then we should be able to see them also.  The water level of the Dead Sea has fallen since the time of Josephus, so the areas Josephus saw in his day are still visible today.

Biblical Warning For All

The cities of the plain were destroyed as a warning for all that this same event will happen again one day to the wicked.  One would think God is capable of preserving this ancient lesson for us to see and to learn from.

"Then the Lord rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the Lord out of the heavens"  Genesis 19:24.  "Turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly"  II Peter 2:6.  (The word for "example" means an exhibit for warning.)

Analysis of the Brimstone

These sulfur balls are mostly golf ball sized, and some have burn marks all around them!  Webster's Dictionary says that "brimstone" = sulfur.  Accordingly, we have found the absolute proof that we have finally located Sodom and Gomorrah, the cities of the plain!

Above at left is brimstone with a burned, hardened shell that has the unburned sulfur inside, and next to it is brimstone without a burned shell.  The photo at right is a shell or capsule with unburned sulfur inside.  Tiny crystals are on its surface which were formed when the sulfur was burning and was in a liquid state, then it burned out.

Above:  Located on the side of a ziggurat, this brimstone in a shell is opened to reveal the unburned sulfur inside

Each of the cities of the plain contain evidence of brimstone which God rained down upon the cities to destroy them.  The brimstone is composed of 96-98 percent sulfur, with trace amounts of magnesium which create an extremely high temperature burn.  This is the only place on earth where you can find 96 percent pure monoclinic sulfur in a round ball.  This brimstone is NOT from any type of geo-thermal activity as there is no evidence of such in the area, and geo-thermal sulfur nodules are only 40 percent pure sulfur and are of the rhombic type.

Analysis of the Ash

Everything in these cities burned and turned into ash, including the buildings themselves as the Bible says that the cities were to be destroyed also.  The Bible told us that God rained down "fire and brimstone"  When God rains down fire, it is a consuming fire, just like the time of Elijah when God sent down fire to destroy the stone altar, the limestone buildings here were totally destroyed and turned into ash.

The extremely high burning temperatures created a multi-shaded layering of ash that was formed by thermal ionization, caused by electrons repelling and attracting, creating a swirling effect in the remains.  The intense fire which

God rained down upon these cities was so hot that it burned the limestone blocks that were used in the construction of the cities.  The ash there today is composed of Calcium Sulfate and Calcium Carbonate which are by-products of the limestone and sulfur burning.

Cities Visible in Satellite Photos

The cities are almost entirely turned into white ash, and can be seen in the satellite photographs below.

Notice each of the cities stand out from the surrounding terrain because of the white ash contained within them.  The city of Zoar was a "little one" or a newly built city that was square.  As cities grew or expanded they quickly lost this square shape.

Genesis 10:19 indicates the five cities formed the Canaanite border, thus the could not have been grouped together at the south end of the Dead Sea as popularly believed.  They form a north-south line along the Jordan/Dead Sea area.  Gomorrah is located at the base of Masada, and in 1998, additional formations were found in Jordan on the opposite of the Dead Sea from Gomorrah in the Lisan Peninsula, including a large cemetery area containing 1,000,000 graves.  The same structures as found on the Israeli side were also found on the Jordanian side -  ash, brimstone and even ceramic tile.

Man-made Formations

Below - Man-made formations are found in the cities, including ziggurats, sphinxes, windows, arched doorways and walls resembling double Canaanite city walls.

Sphinx Shapes

Unique shapes are visible in the cities that are not found in nature, including sphinx shapes like the ones below.

Above: This sphinx formation on a raised platform is about 40 feet long and was made of a different whiter material than the surrounding platform. It may have been a worship figure or god and was made of a special material.   Masada in rear.

Glass or Crystals

The extreme heat caused unusual reactions to the material in the cities, including the creation of glass or crystals.

Above:  Gypsum crystals on top layer with white gypsum underneath.
Gypsum was the product of the brimstone and limestone burning together.

broke open a large clump "live" on video.

Anomalies

More evidence of the extreme heat was found.

Above:  this specimen shows signs of having been melted.

A spear head and a cache of burned gold which is now gold salts, burned bones, jars, and tile have also been found by others who have visited the cities.
